Mary’s Rock Summit Trail- Shenandoah National Park, VA

I was surrounded by a stunning landscape of reds, oranges, and yellows with a crisp cool breeze. This trail is perfect for sunset because the views are seriously out of this world. Along the way, you’ll come upon multiple viewpoints that give you a 360-degree look at the Shenandoah Valley and Skyline Drive. You can see expansive views of the park from both sides of the mountain. There’s really nothing like seeing Skyline Drive at sunset! 

Hawksbill Summit Trail- Shenandoah National Park, VA

• Difficulty: Moderate

If you’re up for a challenge with some seriously rewarding views, this sunset hike is for you. Hawksbill is the tallest point in Shenandoah, so you know you’re in for some epic scenery. And when you finally reach the summit, there’s a cozy shelter perfect for a well-deserved rest and maybe even a snack break. It’s a bit of an intense climb, with some steep sections that’ll definitely get your heart pumping. Annapolis Rock/ Black Rock- South Mountain State Park, MD

Let me tell you about a trail that’s as convenient as it is stunning: Annapolis Rock/Black Rock in South Mountain State Park, MD. First off, it’s right off Route 40, so it’s incredibly easy to find. Once you hit the trail, get ready for a bit of a climb, but don’t worry, it’s nothing too crazy. And let me tell you, this sunset hike at Annapolis Rock is worth every step. When you finally reach that overlook, you’re greeted with a panoramic view of the sunset that will feel like a dream. Seriously, it’s like Mother Nature showing off her best work. But here’s an insider’s tip: if you’re looking for a quieter spot to soak in the scenery, keep on hiking to Black Rock. It’s a bit less crowded but still offers up some seriously epic views. Annapolis Rock/Black Rock is a trail you can’t miss!

White Oak Trail to Cranny Crow Overlook- Lost River State Park, WV

Kind of a hidden gem: this little part of ‘Almost Heaven’: the White Oak Trail to Cranny Crow Overlook in Lost River State Park, WV. Let me tell you, this sunset hike is unique, it’s gorgeous, and it’s pure West Virginia magic. Seriously, you’ll understand why they call it Almost Heaven as soon as you set foot on this trail. But here’s my tip: hidden around West Virginia, you’ll find these iconic swings that are strategically placed at the most amazing viewpoints. This sunset spot at Cranny Crow Overlook is no exception. Watching sunset at this spot is the kind of moment that’s so perfect. If you’re craving the best sunset, the White Oak Trail to Cranny Crow Overlook is calling your name. 

Pinnacle Overlook- Susquehannock State Park, PA

• Length: Approximately 0.5 miles roundtrip
• Difficulty: Easy

Let me clue you in on a spot that’s as easy to access as it is breathtaking: Pinnacle Overlook in Susquehannock State Park, PA. You can basically drive right up to the overlook. No hiking required! How’s that for convenience? But let me tell you, the views from up there are worth every mile of the drive. You can stand at the edge of the overlook, take in the sight of the best sunset in Pennsylvania, with the majestic Susquehanna River winding its way through the landscape. It’s the kind of view that makes you feel small in the best possible way, reminding you of the beauty of Mother Nature.

Weverton Cliffs- Knoxville, MD

• Difficulty: Moderate

This sunset hike may be short, but let me tell you, it packs a punch in the best way possible. I’m talking about the iconic view of the best sunset in Western Maryland, with the stunning Potomac river below. And if you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a train moving along in the distance. Are you a beach lover? You won’t want to miss this gem on the Atlantic coast- The Bayside Trail in Assateague Island National Seashore, MD. Not only is this place stunningly unique, but it’s also got a little something for everyone. I visited this place last year and it was such a magical moment! I was strolling along the trail, surrounded by untouched landscapes and the breeze of the Atlantic Ocean when I caught one of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen. But here’s the best part about this National Seashore: you might see the island’s wild horses! They were everywhere! I came back from the bathroom to find them digging around in my cooking supplies. And then the sunset over the bay? Insane! Trust me, it’s a bucket-list moment you won’t forget. You won’t want to forget your camera for this one. Soak in all the beauty that Assateague Island has to offer on the Bayside Trail. It’s a piece of paradise you’ll be dreaming about for years!

Stony Man Summit Trail- Shenandoah National Park, VA

• Length: Approximately 1.6 miles roundtrip
• Difficulty: Easy to moderate

This is one of my favorite trails-  the Stony Man Summit Trail in Shenandoah National Park, VA. Trust me when I say this hike is high elevation paradise, with a massive payoff for minimal effort. Seriously, it’s a short hike but oh-so-worth it! I hiked this trail last June, and it was the best sunset and a perfect evening! I made my way up the trail, surrounded by the scent of pine trees and the chirping of birds. And then as I reached the summit, I was shocked with the intense sunset view. Seriously, this sunset hike is nothing short of breathtaking. It’s the perfect spot to pitch a hammock and kick back as the sun starts to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in bright orange and yellow hues. Seneca Rocks- Monongahela National Forest, WV

• Length: Varies depending on the route chosen; usually around 3 miles roundtrip
• Difficulty: Moderate to strenuous (due to elevation gain and rocky terrain)

This iconic sunset hike is one of the coolest spots in West Virginia: Seneca Rocks in Monongahela National Forest. Seriously, this place is like something out of a storybook! On the drive to Seneca Rocks, you’ll catch a glimpse of the unique rock formations rising up from the earth like ancient sentinels. It’s a sight that’ll stop you dead in your tracks, trust me! The trail is so fun, with winding switchbacks and stunning views. But here’s the best part: there’s a comfy platform at the top where you can kick back and watch the sunset paint the sky in brilliant shades of pink and orange.
